2. Our services
Hi Spec Scotland supplies and installs windows, doors, glazing products and related home improvement services across Scotland.
Our services may include, but are not limited to:
uPVC windows, aluminium windows, timber windows, casement windows, tilt and turn windows, sash windows, composite doors, uPVC doors, aluminium doors, French doors, patio doors, bifold doors, conservatories, outdoor living spaces, porches, garage conversions, surveying, trade supply and related installation services.
The exact products and services included in your project will be set out in your written quotation, order confirmation, specification or contract documents.
3. Website use
The information on this website is provided for general guidance only. While we aim to keep all information accurate and up to date, we cannot guarantee that all product descriptions, images, specifications, availability, prices or service details will always be complete, accurate or current.
We may update, change or remove website content at any time without notice.
You must not misuse this website, attempt to gain unauthorised access to it, introduce malicious software, copy content without permission, or use the website in a way that could damage our business, systems or reputation.
4. Quotes and estimates
We may provide free quotations for windows, doors, glazing and home improvement work.
A quotation is based on the information available at the time it is prepared. This may include details provided by you, site measurements, product choices and the scope of work discussed.
Unless otherwise stated in writing, quotations are valid for 30 days from the date of issue.
A quotation may change if:
the scope of work changes;
you request different products, colours, glass, hardware, finishes or specifications;
additional work is identified after survey or during installation;
structural issues, access issues or hidden defects are discovered;
supplier, material or manufacturing costs change after the quotation validity period.
Where possible, we will explain any changes before additional costs are incurred.
Citizens Advice distinguishes between quotes and estimates, explaining that a quote is an agreed price, while an estimate is a trader’s best assessment of likely cost. For clarity, Hi Spec should use the word “quotation” only where you are comfortable treating it as the agreed price for the stated scope.
5. Orders and acceptance
An order is not confirmed until we have accepted it in writing, received any required deposit or payment, and completed any required survey or technical checks.
We reserve the right to decline an order where the work is not suitable, products are unavailable, the property is unsuitable, information provided is inaccurate, or we reasonably believe we cannot complete the work to the required standard.
Any changes requested after an order is confirmed may affect the price, timescale, product availability and installation date.
6. Deposits and payments
For many projects, a deposit or staged payment may be required before materials are ordered or work begins.
Your quotation, invoice or order confirmation will set out the payment terms for your project.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the balance of payment is due on completion of the agreed works.
We accept payment by BACS, cash, debit card or credit card.
If payment is overdue, we may charge interest and reasonable recovery costs where permitted by law. We may also pause further work, delay ordering products or withhold certificates, guarantees or completion documents until payment is received.
A deposit is not automatically non-refundable. UK government guidance states that if a customer cancels, a business is generally only entitled to keep an amount that reflects actual losses resulting from the cancellation.
7. Surveys and measurements
Where required, we may carry out a site survey before confirming manufacturing sizes, installation details and final specifications.
The survey may identify issues not visible during the initial quote stage, including structural problems, damp, rot, damaged lintels, access restrictions, uneven openings, electrical issues, pipework, asbestos risks or other hidden defects.
If additional work is required, we will discuss this with you. Additional work may be charged separately unless it has already been included in your quotation.
8. Product specifications
We will supply products in line with the specification agreed in your quotation, order confirmation or contract documents.
Product colours, glass designs, handles, hardware, frames and finishes shown online, in brochures or in photographs are for illustrative purposes only. Actual appearance may vary due to lighting, screen settings, manufacturing tolerances and supplier availability.
We may substitute a product, component or material with an equivalent or better alternative where necessary, provided this does not materially reduce the quality, performance or appearance of the finished work.
9. Installation dates and timescales
We will make reasonable efforts to meet agreed installation dates and estimated timescales.
However, installation dates may be affected by factors outside our reasonable control, including weather, supplier delays, manufacturing delays, transport issues, staff illness, access problems, property conditions or unforeseen site issues.
We are not liable for delays caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, but we will keep you informed where delays affect your project.
10. Customer responsibilities
You are responsible for ensuring that:
we have safe and reasonable access to the property;
the work area is clear before installation begins;
parking, access and permissions are arranged where required;
children, pets and vulnerable occupants are kept away from work areas;
we are made aware of hidden pipes, cables, alarms, structural concerns or relevant property issues;
you have obtained any necessary permissions, consents, warrants or approvals unless we have agreed in writing to handle these for you.
You should remove blinds, curtains, ornaments, furniture and fragile items from the work area before installation unless we agree otherwise.
We will take reasonable care while working in your property, but we are not responsible for damage caused by pre-existing defects, poor plasterwork, unstable structures, hidden services, rotten timber, weak masonry or items not removed from the work area.
11. Planning permission, building warrants and consents
Depending on the property and the type of work, you may require planning permission, a building warrant, listed building consent, conservation area approval, landlord consent, factor consent, mortgage lender consent or other approval.
Unless we agree otherwise in writing, it is your responsibility to check and obtain any required permissions before work begins.
We are not responsible for delays, enforcement action, additional costs or required alterations caused by missing permissions or consents where responsibility for obtaining them sits with you.
12. Cancellations and cooling-off rights
Your cancellation rights depend on how and where the contract was agreed, whether products are made to measure, and whether work has already started.
For many consumer contracts agreed online, by phone, or away from business premises, a 14-day cooling-off period may apply. Citizens Advice states that consumers may be able to cancel building or home improvement work within 14 days, and that if work has not started, the consumer may be entitled to a refund during that period. The Consumer Contracts Regulations also set out cancellation rights for certain consumer contracts, including a 14-day cancellation period in relevant circumstances.
However, cancellation rights may be affected where:
you ask us to begin work during the cancellation period;
goods are made to your measurements or personalised specification;
materials have already been ordered;
manufacturing has started;
installation has started or been completed.
If you wish to cancel, you must contact us in writing as soon as possible.
Where cancellation is permitted, we will refund any amount due to you after deducting any reasonable costs, losses or work already incurred where the law allows us to do so.
13. Made-to-measure and bespoke products
Many windows, doors and glazing products are manufactured to specific measurements, colours, styles, openings and customer specifications.
Once bespoke or made-to-measure products have been ordered, manufactured or reserved for your project, cancellation rights may be limited.
If you cancel after bespoke products have been ordered, you may be responsible for costs we have reasonably incurred.
14. Changes requested by the customer
Any changes to your order must be agreed in writing.
Changes may affect the price, installation date, product lead time, availability and guarantee.
We are not obliged to accept changes after products have been ordered or manufacturing has started.
15. Workmanship and quality
We aim to complete every installation with reasonable care and skill, using suitable materials and experienced installers.
If you believe there is an issue with our workmanship, you must notify us as soon as reasonably possible and allow us a fair opportunity to inspect the work and put right any valid issue.
You should not instruct another contractor to alter, repair or remove our work before giving us a reasonable opportunity to inspect and resolve the issue, unless there is an urgent health and safety risk.
16. Guarantees and warranties
Where a guarantee or warranty applies, the details will be provided in your quotation, invoice, product documentation or guarantee certificate.
Guarantees may vary depending on the product, manufacturer, supplier, glazing unit, hardware, installation type and nature of the work.
A guarantee may not cover:
accidental damage;
misuse, neglect or lack of maintenance;
damage caused by third parties;
structural movement;
pre-existing property defects;
condensation caused by lifestyle, ventilation or property conditions;
storm, flood, fire or extreme weather damage;
alterations or repairs carried out by others;
normal wear and tear.
Your statutory rights are not affected by any guarantee or warranty.
17. Condensation and ventilation
New windows and doors may improve insulation and reduce draughts. In some properties, this can make existing condensation or ventilation issues more noticeable.
Condensation can be affected by heating, ventilation, humidity, cooking, bathing, drying clothes indoors, property age, insulation and occupant behaviour.
Unless specifically agreed in writing, we are not responsible for condensation, damp, mould or ventilation issues caused by property conditions or lifestyle factors.
18. Existing damage, hidden defects and making good
During removal of existing windows, doors or frames, hidden defects may become visible. These may include rotten timber, damaged plaster, loose render, cracked brickwork, failed lintels, damp, poor previous workmanship or structural movement.
We will take reasonable care during installation. However, unless specifically included in your quotation, making good may not include plastering, decorating, painting, tiling, rendering, flooring, alarm reconnection or specialist repair work.
Any additional making good or remedial work may be quoted separately.

20. Liability
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits or excludes our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
We are not responsible for:
losses that were not reasonably foreseeable;
losses caused by inaccurate information provided by you;
delays outside our reasonable control;
pre-existing property defects;
damage caused by third parties;
business losses where work is carried out for a domestic customer;
loss of profit, loss of opportunity or indirect losses.
21. Trade customers
Where we supply products or services to trade customers, separate trade terms may apply.
Trade customers are responsible for checking measurements, specifications, suitability, compliance, storage, handling and installation unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.
Any trade account, delivery, storage, survey or service engineer arrangement must be agreed separately.

26. Governing law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Scotland.
Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts, unless consumer protection law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
